Iron Chef Cat Cora has certainly become a force to be reckoned with, and she’s using her popularity for good!
With world childhood obesity rates at an all-time high, everyone’s teaming up and pooling resources to be able to educate the youth about proper eating. Not one to be left behind, Iron Chef Cat Cora has joined First Lady Michele Obama’s Chefs Move to Schools program, teaching the cooks and chefs of school cafeterias to cook better, healthier food.
Cat Cora has always been committed to promoting healthier eating to her local community, and this move has definitely made the goal to build a healthier America much more attainable. Cat Cora, who made history as the first female Iron Chef in 2005, has made the push for healthy cooking and eating personal, telling FitBottomedMamas.com that, “We make a point of using local/seasonal fresh ingredients in our nightly family dinner together. We use the outdoor grill as often as we can for lean proteins, veggies and even fresh fruit for desserts.”
This seems to tie in quite well with the efforts made by other organizations across the world. Experts believe that the key to healthy eating and converting to a healthier lifestyle lies in altering the way we think about food in general. Marks & Spencer’s commitment to Change for Life has enticed them to create a range of party food that has smaller portions, and healthier ingredients like fruit and veg, and even fast food giant McDonald’s has released a comprehensive list of “Favorites Under 400” (calories, that is).
See, it’s easy to eat healthy, and for most people, all it takes is some guidance. In an interview with O Magazine, Cat Cora unveiled her go-to backyard party menu – a happy list of healthy, delicious food packed full of nutrients and flavor. If you’re throwing a party and want to make things healthy, here are a few treats that Cat Cora swears will be a hit:
1. Asparagus and Snow Pea Salad with Lime Vinaigrette and Pepitas
2. Melon Gazpacho “Shooters” with Shrimp
3. Grilled Pineapple and Avocado Guacamole
4. Broccoli Slaw with Cilantro and Garlic
5. Jalapeño-Jack Cornbread Muffins
